about
"Close Encounters" is the debut single by The Daily, a duo from south East London made up of Alex Reeve and Felix James. Formed from two separate instrumental tracks merged together, this first track offers an early insight into the styles and approach of The Daily. The music blends techno and electro rhythms with rock guitars and thumping bass to create a unique combination of sound, both subtle and yet totally immediate in its resonance.
The lyrics are a common tale of the nausea and exhaustion of everyday life, punctuated by a desire to form a deeper connection with others. The song articulates the search for a more meaningful and fulfilling way of life; a rebellion against the familiar and mundane that seems to have no outlet.
Computer technology can feel like both a barrier to this search for meaning, and yet also a vital tool for achieving it in the modern world. This tense relationship with technology is at the heart of The Daily sound and ethos as the dup attempt to reconcile the old world with the new, both musically and spiritually.
lyrics
Close Encounters- Lyrics
Shift so long,
I’m still ill.
Just want to know,
How it feels.
Losing track,
The Sterling pound.
As it keeps,
Going around.
I need a close encounter
I need a close encounter
Been too long,
Blues coming on
I need a better councillor
I need a close encounter
I cut through your bullshit,
I keep faith don’t force it
I’m up on the house here
I need a close encounter.
I’m up on the house here
I need a close encounter.
I need a close encounter.
